A few things look unfinished:

What a tax invoice must include

If you're registered for GST and a customer asks for a tax invoice, you need to give them one within 28 days (sales of $82.50 or less, including GST, are exempt). According to the ATO, a tax invoice must show:

    1. That it's intended to be a tax invoice. Invotaxa titles it "Tax invoice" as soon as you add GST.
    2. Your identity: your name or business name.
    3. Your ABN.
    4. The date it was issued.
    5. A brief description of what you sold, with the quantity where it applies and the price.
    6. The GST amount, shown separately.
    7. Which items are taxable, if some aren't (for example GST-free items).

For sales of $1,000 or more, it must also show the buyer's identity or ABN. Enter it under "Bill to", with their ABN in the Tax ID field.

    How to fill it in

    1. Your business: your name, address and contact details. Your ABN goes in the Tax ID field, which is already named "ABN".
    2. Bill to: your client's name and address. Add their ABN for sales of $1,000 or more.
    3. Line items: what you did or sold, the quantity and the price, before GST.
    4. GST: if you're registered, open "+ GST (10% standard)" and click "Use 10%". The title changes to "Tax invoice". If an item is GST-free, untick "Tax" on that line.
    5. Download the PDF to send, or Word or Excel to edit later.

    Not registered for GST?

You only have to register once your GST turnover reaches $75,000 a year (taxi and ride-sourcing drivers must register whatever they earn). If you're not registered, don't add GST: send an ordinary invoice, which is what this page makes until you add GST. Saying "Tax invoice" or charging GST when you aren't registered isn't allowed.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a tax invoice different from an invoice?

A tax invoice is an invoice from a GST-registered business that has everything the ATO requires, so your customer can claim the GST back. If you aren't registered for GST, you send a normal invoice without GST.

Can I show prices including GST instead?

The ATO lets you write "Total price includes GST" instead of showing the GST amount, but only when the GST is exactly one-eleventh of the total. Invotaxa shows the GST amount separately, which is always accepted.

Do I need to show the buyer's ABN?

Only for sales of $1,000 or more, where you need the buyer's identity or their ABN. It's fine to include it on smaller invoices too.

    Is this template free?

Yes. No account, no watermark and no limit. Your invoice is made in your browser and isn't uploaded.
